What is renewable energy?

Renewable energy is the energy that is obtained from natural sources able to regenerate. It’s an energy considered endless and non-polluting. Renewable energy is seen as an alternative to the excessive use of fossil fuels (as these are the major cause of pollution).

There are several types of renewable energy: solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy and biomass.


What is solar energy?

It is the energy that comes from the light and heat of the sun, respectively, light energy and and thermal energy.


What is wind energy?

Wind energy takes advantage of the kinetic energy contained in the wind to produce mechanical energy.


What is a photovoltaic solar system?

Photovoltaic solar systems convert solar energy directly into electric current.


What is a solar thermal system?

Solar thermal systems directly convert solar radiation into thermal energy for heating water or other purposes.


How does a solar thermal system works?

Solar radiation is captured through existing collectors on solar panels where it’s converted into heat energy. Within each circulates a fluid collector that’s responsible for the captured energy transportation to a heat exchanger where it’s transferred to the water consumption, usually inserted in a hot water accumulator.


How the thermosyphon solar thermal system works?

Circulation is made by natural convection: the thermal fluid heats and becomes less dense, then rises from the collector to the tank, there it cools down, and descends again to the collector. The process is continuous as long as the solar radiation is available and the temperature in the collector is maintained higher than the accumulator.


How the forced circulation solar thermal system works?

The circulation of the thermal fluid is characterized by the existence of a circulation pump which forces the transport of thermal fluid between the collector and the accumulator. This pump is controlled by a control unit, which in simple systems, it reacts to the temperature difference between the heat transfer fluid at the exit of the collectors and the temperature of the water in the lower part of the tank. The accumulator is generally placed inside the building.


What is biomass energy?

Biomass is the name given to any fuel from organic source used to generate electricity.

Due to the variability of materials that can be considered biomass, there are many processes wherein the biomass is transformed into energy, they are divided into three types: involving the direct combustion (biomass in furnaces, salamanders, boilers or stoves) those involving thermochemical processes (gasification, pyrolysis, liquefaction and transesterification) and biological processes that involve (digesters).


What is a heat pump?

Heat pumps are a clean energy source economically profitable. Heats pumps extract at around 70% the existing energy in the environment whether in summer or in winter and turn it into useful energy for sanitary water heating.
